Banana Milkshake

I haven't done a recipe in awhile, so I decided to give all my readers a recipe for my Banana Milkshake. It is delicious AND nutritious.... and very easy to make (hey, I can make it, so it can't be THAT hard!). The best part? You only need 4 ingredients that you likely already have!

You Will Need:
1 ripe banana
1 packet of Sweet n Low
1/4 cup milk
3-4 ice cubes

Prep:
Basically, toss all your ingredients into a blender (or a a food processor) and blend until everything is mixed... and that's it. Serve immediately AND ENJOY!!! My sister AND grandmother love this recipe- and my Dad only doesn't like it because he refuses to try it.

Fat Slice - Fun Game

Today, I discovered a new addicting game to play- Fat Slice! It is a game where you basically have to slice as much as you can off of different objects without the bouncy balls disrupting your cut line. The balls cannot be chopped off of the shape. It is fun yet annoying when you get caught on a level- I am stuck on one that looks like a spider.

You can try out Fat Slice here- http://www.miniclip.com/games/fat-slice/en/

There is also a game called Fat Slice 2, which is a bit simpler as you can curve your slice, rather than having to work with just a straight line. It is still very fun though- I am almost finished with the game! You can play THAT game here- http://www.addictinggames.com/puzzle-games/fatslice2-game.jsp

Let me know in the comments how far you get- and any other fun games!!!

HomeSchooling with My Sister

Ashleigh is officially being homeschooled now! Every day, Dad gives my sister a new word to memorize, sound out and write. Today, she wrote out the words "tap" and "think". I also had her do 1 math, which she finished pretty quickly. Now, she is done for the day and is playing on my sims game. She, like me, is addicted to creating different characters in sims. The only problem is that she makes really BAD sims... oh well.

Now that I am done schooling Ashleigh, I have time to focus on MY schoolwork- YAY! I have 2 math, my blogging, my French, and my CodeAcademy to do today. Speaking of French- I am actually learning how to speak it! (Kind of.) I can say just a few basic things, but it is better than when I started! My Grandma and my aunt both speak fluent French, so if I get caught, they can help me.

Hanging With My Best Friend

This week has been school break- and so my friend came over! Naturally, it isn't school break for ME, but Dad made an exception, being we are busy tomorrow and Sunday. It was a great time, being her and I hadn't hung out in about a month. We had fun going for hikes in the woods, having lunch and chatting. We even found some cool stuff in the woods, near an old house we like to walk by- I found a pitcher and an old door hinge, and she found an old spring coil.
That's why I am blogging so late- I was busy having fun today! Also, my Dad is beginning to teach me how to drive for when I am older (after I begged him 100 times over)! He helps me drive the car up the drive way. The first time I drove, I was REALLY scared, and was pretty bad, but now, on my third try, I am doing a lot better. I actually drove the car pretty well today!

Well, it's pretty late, and I DO want to get to bed tonight, so...

Til' Monday,

Simple Strawberry Shortcake

Yesterday, my Grandma and I made a simple strawberry shortcake, and today, I wanted to share the recipe. You only need a few basic ingredients:

2 strawberries, cut in half
1 medium slice of angel food cake
1 tbsp of whipped cream (canned, OR you can make your own)

For whipped cream:
1 cup of heavy whipping cream
1 packet of sweet n low

Whisk the cream and sweet n low together with a mixette or by hand until the cream gets thick and frothy. Be careful of it turning to butter- stop whisking just before this point for a nice, thick whipped cream. Scoop some whipped cream onto your cake, and then assemble the four strawberry halves. Enjoy with a glass of milk.

Closet Cleaning

Today, my Grandma had a doctor's appointment, which means that I had my sister for a few hours- so after breakfast, my sister and I went upstairs to begin a surprise for Grandma- cleaning my sister's MESSSSSYYYY closet. It was packed with small clothing and way too many hangers; and so our "adventure" began.

The first thing to do was sort out the small clothing- which there was way too much of. To give you an idea of how things were, we found a dress that was labeled "24 mos". UGH. However, we got through it, and one bin of clothing later, the closet was already shaping up.

Next, we got rid of the unnecessary hangers and put the folded clothing that FIT into her dresser. To finish up, we sorted her shoes into a bin and moved her dresser over a little. Now, everything is clean, and her closet is A LOT neater than it was before. Grandma got home, and LOVED our surprise- she said we would have done it later in the day anyway!

Moving From NJ

If you are wondering why I didn't blog all of last week... HERE IS YOUR ANSWER! I was in NJ for the week- both for Easter AND to move things out of my Grandma's house. Almost all the furniture from my Grandma's house is gone, and is now in NH. In fact, I have a (semi) new desk! I finally cleaned off my old, scratched up desk, and Dad let me have the one from my Grandma's house. It is bigger and MUCH better than the other one.

Everything was moved in today- most of it is boxes upon BOXES of paperwork and- stuff. I can barely walk down in the basement, and much of the garage is also filled with moving items. Aside from this, NJ was great- I went to the movies with my Dad, I saw a puppet show with my sister and Dad, and went to the park NUMEROUS times. Easter was great- I made a bunny cake, but unfortunately got no pictures of it.

Come to think of it, I barely got ANY good photos this trip! But then again, I was busy- going to the library, going to the park, going to lunch, going to dinner, and watching movies with my sister throughout the day. This post is getting lengthy, so I am going to end it here- I hope everyone had as good an Easter as I did.

P.S. I should be back on my regular blogging schedule now- remember to check back every day!

NJ Trip

This week, I am going to NJ for TEN DAYS! We are moving out of my Grandma's house next week, and so we are going down for Easter and for the moving. This likely means I get some time off... depending if Dad is in a good mood or not. We are leaving early Saturday morning, so today and tomorrow are going to be spent packing and cleaning.

Speaking of packing... I don't even know what I am going to take (besides my Easter dress)! For ten days, I am probably going to need a bigger suitcase... sorry in advance, Dad! Ten days worth of clothing, shoes, perfume and makeup takes some space. At least the car trips have become progressively shorter as my sister has gotten older- had they gotten any longer, I would have been cranky by the end of the trip! Before you start criticising, think about it- 6-7 hours in a hot, cramped car with my sister and the dog breathing and whining down my neck. NO THANKS!

Well, I am going to end this post here and actually get started on my packing- I need time to pack!

Ideas of the Great Philosophers

Ideas of the Great Philosophers
Parts 2 by Madison Nef
Part 1 REALLLLLY sucked, so I decided to make my 3 pages out of part two and focus on the great ideas of philosophers such as Kant, Socrates and more. I will start with Socrates and work from there.
Socrates
Socrates was an early Greek philosopher with many good thoughts about knowledge- he was one of the first Greek philosophers to suggest that mankind turned their attention from external nature to themselves- truly explore human nature and how the mind works. He believed that to know oneself was a great power, and that he who knew himself, who TRULY knew himself, would succeed, for that man would know what was in his ability to do and what he could succeed in.
I agree with this point- knowing yourself is important. If you don’t know yourself, you probably make an idiot out of yourself more times than you realize, attempting what cannot be done. Another point I want to quickly mention is- having confidence in you also has a big play in this, but that is unrelated to this subject so I will move on.
Socrates also believed that virtue is knowledge, and at the same time happiness. He knew that man who knew right from wrong would always choose right, unless he purposely chose to do wrong- in which case, he would make himself unhappy. This leads us to the second part of Socrates belief- that virtue is happiness. For when a man does something good for another, he himself creates happiness.
Aristotle’s Self Realization Theory
Aristotle believed that since the day a man is born, his one outstanding goal in life was to achieve the utmost in what he had been put on Earth to do- in other words, to be perfect. If the man did not strive towards perfection and attain it, he would feel deep discontentment with himself. Aristotle also believed that “Nature does nothing in vain,” meaning that everything is put on Earth for a reason- everyone has a purpose.
I half agree with Aristotle- I do believe that everything is put on Earth for a reason, and I also believe that you should strive to be your best- but never aim for perfection. It is impossible to be perfect, and if you set an unrealistic goal, you will never be able to achieve it- thus leading to “discontentment”.
Aristotle believed that along with perfection, man also strived for life’s greatest treasure- happiness. If a man applied his talents and abilities correctly, he could make his own happiness. And according to Aristotle? Man’s greatest ability is to think.
The Utilitarian Philosophy of Jeremy Bentham
Now, disclaimer before I start: This guy sounds like a crazy person in my opinion. Basically, Bentham was a Hedonist to begin with, and Utilitarian is very similar to a Hedonist. He believed that the greatest things in life were pleasures, and he worried that people would choose the wrong kinds of pleasure. Sounds normal, right? Well, this guy actually made a Hedonist calculus to help people MEASURE pleasure- just in case they ever needed to choose.
Bentham believed that spiritual pleasures didn’t really count, and were just pseudo-pleasures, and that if one did not ever feel the sensation of pleasure, they would not find life worth living. Huh. I am starting to think Aristotle actually had more brains that this guy! He said happiness, not pleasure. Happiness is easier to attain as well!
The Intuitionism of Immanuel Kant
The system of ethics formed by Kant is based entirely off of good will- “Where there is no good will, no freedom of choice, a moral situation cannot possibly exist”. Kant believed that morality was entirely in the individual, and that the consequences that the person brought upon themselves was theirs entirely. “Right is right and must willed regardless of consequences.”
Kant also believed that no one could make a person WILL to do anything- while an elder may force a child to do things, the child himself does not will to do it unless he himself chooses to do it. Therefore, not one has the power to will anyone to do anything except the person acting on the task. Kant also believed that while everything had a price tag, man did not. Man had dignity, worth more than anything else- and any man who sold himself for a price was being cheated out of his price, for man posses infinite value.
The Pessimistic Philosophy of Arthur Schopenhauer
Arthur S. believed something VERY strange- that evil was good! He also believed that the world was basically and inherently evil- which he was pretty correct about. He had a reason to believe this- he claimed that happiness is only a short period in between the long stretches of pain, dividing the next interval of sadness from the last.
Arthur’s point makes sense- but he is just a little too bitter for me to agree with him: “It is a sin to be born.” That I don’t agree with! It is NOT a sin to be born, not at all! He also goes on to say that “life must be some kind of mistake”. Oh well, I guess he was a famous pessimist.
“All willing rises from want, therefore from deficiency, and therefore from suffering. The satisfaction of a wish ends it; yet for one wish that is satisfied there remain at least ten which are denied. Further, the desire lasts long, the demands are infinite; the satisfaction is short and scantily measured out. But even the final satisfaction is itself only apparent; every satisfied wish at once makes room for a new one; both are illusions… no attained object of desire can give lasting satisfaction, but merely a fleeting gratification; it is like alms thrown to the beggar, that keeps him alive today that his misery may be prolonged till the morrow.”

BRAIN CRAMP!

I hate it when I can't come up with a good blog idea- it just gets on my nerves! Right now I am having a brain cramp and I can't think of anything interesting to blog about. So, I am going to leave 2 links to some awesome game websites instead:

www.miniclip.com
Miniclip is a HUGE online gaming site- no downloads (unless it is a multiplayer game) and all are free and very fun if ever you are bored. I highly recommend the game Sewer Run- it is a cool skateboarding game.
www.flipline.com
Flipline Studios are the maker of all the "eria" games, as I call them. They have games such as:

  • Papa's Pizzeria
  • Papa's Taco Mia
  • Papa's Freezeria
  • Papa's Pancakeria
  • Papa's Cupcakeria
  • Papa's Hotdogeria
  • Papa's Burgeria
  • Papa's....
The list goes on forever. BUT the games are simple, fun, and GREAT time killers. Try them out and let me know what you think in the comments!

Eggplant Parm

Today, I had a brain cramp while attempting to blog and decided to go chat with my Grandma to clear my mind. It turns out she was making Eggplant Parm- and I ended up helping! Here is the recipe:

You Will Need:

1 medium eggplant
2 tbsp Parmesan grated cheese
Any pasta sauce, 24 oz (we used Hunt's Premium Garlic Roasted)
Italian seasoning (optional, to add flavor to tomato sauce)
1/2 cup shredded mozzarella

Prep:
End Result!
Wash and slice eggplant, about 1/4 inch slices. Put a small dab of oil into 2 frying pans and cook the eggplant slices for 3 minutes each side. Add butter underneath each slice after the first 2 minutes. While you eggplant is cooking, prepare your baking dish of your choice. You can bake either one or two layers, but a one layer DOES bake faster. Lightly cover bottom of dish with tomato sauce.

When your eggplant is done cooking, place the slices in the tomato sauce and then cover them with about a tbsp each of tomato sauce. Then, add your parmesan and mozzarella. Bake in the oven for 30 minutes on 350. ENJOY!

Well, there is the recipe! I hope that you give it a try, it is actually pretty good. Leave me a recipe in the comments that I should try, and maybe I will!

I Can't

My dad has taught me a very valuable lesson, and that is to never say or even THINK these phrases: "I can't" and "I don't know". Why? Because they give off a negative attitude and show that you are giving up- and Dad believes in never giving up, and at giving something your all. "It's better that you try something and fail than quit and walk away- at least you know you gave it your all" is a quote that dad likes to use with me and my sister.

I fully agree about never saying these phrases and have decided that negativity is just NOT WORTH IT!!! Worrying over little things, and letting people annoy you is no way to live life. Things you cannot change you must learn to live with, accept, and possibly make something better out if it. I want to make my life more positive, starting now.

I have seen my friends and myself let simple things bug me. From backstabbing "friends" to fretting about something as simple as an outfit, we all have small things that our own "battles of negativity". Negativity has ruled my life for long enough- and I am going to TRY to change- there is no such thing as "I can't".

I apologize if this post was kind of unfunny, but I felt the need to get this out.

Memories

Today, I have been reminiscing with my Grandma about when my family first moved to NH. Some of my favorite memories are of staying in numerous hotels while house shopping, taking tours of different houses (especially one- it had TONS of ladybugs!) and having a great time looking at scenery. I have loved New Hampshire since my first visit, and while I was sad at first about moving from my old house, I now know that this is where I belong.

Some of my first memories from the move are waking up in a bedroom that strongly smelled of cat pee (the former owner of our house had apparently let his cats OWN the place) on an air mattress, sitting with my mom and dad around a cardboard box and eating relatively stale blueberry poptarts for breakfast. Then, mom and dad would work on the house and I would sit on the floor in our now dining room watching movies.

Speaking of the dining room... I remember that the first Christmas in the house, the power went out for a bit and since the store was closed (I believe it was the year of the ice storm), my Christmas dinner was Ramen Noodles. Thankfully, the power came back soon after dinner and I sat on the dining room floor once again and watched movies (I've always been fond of movies).

All in all, there is no place I'd rather be than NH. I go down with my family every so often to visit my NJ family, but NH is where I belong- my friends, my karate, my home, and my life are here, and I would never dream of changing it.

Sick Day

Today, I have been EXTREMELY sick... I haven't even really came downstairs yet. I am sore from karate and on top of that have a head cold that is driving me crazy- so I am spending the day taking hot baths, eating toast and ginger ale and watching the movie Fletch in my dad's room.

Fletch just ended, and so I have decided to surprise dad and do some of my homework- even though I can't come downstairs. This blogger app on my iPod is a lifesaver in times like these- otherwise, I would never have my blogging done today! Call me a sissy, but if you felt how I feel right now you wouldn't want to walk down 24 steps either.

I am going to end my post here, as I hope to have my other work done before my dad gets back from karate.

APRIL FOOLS!

I just LOVE April Fools' day- it is the only day I can play pranks and not really get in trouble! I had been planning a pretty good joke on my Dad- I set an alarm clock for 5:00 AM and hid it on the dresser in his room. Lo and behold, it woke him up, but he then put it in my room and reset it. Fortunately, he didn't set it right and I slept soundly. My Grandma came in at 10:00 and woke me up- but then, she closed the door on her way out of my room. This was my first sign that something was "up". Then, on her way downstairs, I heard her say "OK Wayne" in a low voice- cuing me to check my door.

Sure enough, there was a mop leaned against the door, ready to fall on me if I clumsily stumbled out of my room (like I normally do). Downstairs, I found a plate of fresh fruit that looked very trustworthy. I found it "trustworthy" because my Grandma was the one who had prepared it, and her idea of an April Fool is drawing a fish on a piece of paper. Feeling safe, I dug into the strawberries, but 3/4 of the way through, I hit a VERY NASTY strawberry. My Dad had dipped the strawberry in salt, and it was DISGUSTING!

Some smaller pranks were done, but those are the main ones. What did YOU do for April Fools' day? Let me know in the comments :)
