Poetry

I was going through my stuff earlier and I found this poem I wrote a few months ago. I was gonna put it up, but I thought the better of it at the time. Now I want to post it.

Broken Unicorn
I used to be so happy,
Filled with a child's ever-present glow,
But the magician came, and took me away,
And now my rainbow doesn't show.
My horn is crooked,
My heart split in two,
And though my colors are faded,
I still smile for you
Gone is the sparkle that danced in my eyes,
And with each tear that falls,
Another dream dies
The fairies weren't real,
The dragon breathed lies,
And all that remains,
Is the broken unicorn who cries.

Poetry

Kitty

The cat chased the mouse,
For the mouse was its prey,
But when he caught the small mouse,
The dog chased him away
For the dog hated cats
And so protected the mice
He didn't really care
If the cat thought he was nice
But the cat didn't mean to hurt the mice
He just wanted to play
The mouse was to be loved,
Not torn up and thrown away
But the dog didn't understand
The problem at hand
And the cat went away...
For in the dog's house, he wouldn't stay
He'd find another mouse,
Perhaps another house
But his heart would always be
With the other mouse, you see.

Poetry

Cold Mind

The snow fades out my vision
The sun is nowhere to be seen
What a way to start off Spring...
But then again, its always been
Powdered, cold and white,
Falling without a care,
Covering the rooftops,
Putting shivers in the air
My nose is red with frostbite
As I slowly step outside,
And find that it is warm...
And that the snow was in my mind
Sometimes before you get worked up
You need to sit back and reflect
So when your mind plays tricks on you,
The lie, you'll be able to detect.

Poetry

More Room

We need more room in the world that we're in...
More room to laugh, more room to love,
Our hearts have been filled, with hatred and despite,
We should be happy, not having to push and shove
We need more room in this broken down place,
To decorate with happiness and renovate,
We need more room to share our smiles
A happier home we can create
We have to try, to get rid of the bad,
To stop yelling and shouting,
To stop getting mad
To learn to work together
More room must be made
And life can be lived happier... not against a depressing blade.

Poetry

Perfection

Everyone wants perfect,
perfect hair, perfect skin,
perfect face, bony thin,
Everyone wants perfect,
But no one wants to try,
Even if they did, most of them would likely die,
The mirror has consuming ways,
Destroying all it sees,
Your mind has awful powers that can bring you to your knees
So don't fall in the deathtrap
That every mirror sets,
It really isn't worth it... and it could result in death,

Poetry

Words

Let the words flow out,
Let the words flow out,
If you don't move,
You'll get it done without a doubt
So let the words pour down,
Like rain in the spring
Let the words pour down,
And you will see what they can bring
I know the words are there
Somewhere in your mind
So please, let them free
If you would be so kind
Because my mind is a cage
And the words are my beast
They always break free
When I need them the least
But they are there
They're uncontrolled
So I close my eyes
And let the dice roll.

Poetry Update

I have decided that, at least for a bit, this site is going to be strictly poetry. That's what I am always posting here anyway, so I have decided to make it official. I'm not saying I won't return to regular blog posts in the future; I just want to focus more on poetry on this blog right now. I am writing regular posts on Mountain Rants daily as well as my Dad and sister, so if you are more into my regular writing you can go check there for 3 new posts each day.

Poetry

Brother

I'll be there, back you up
Be your support, and be your crutch
The one to ask, the one to reply
The one to console you, should you cry
My brother, your sister,
A bond tied without blood
If she turns you down,
Your pride will be dragged through the mud
The worst is I can't help it
The choice is her own
I can try hard to guide,
But no clear path is shown
And now I abandon you,
The trail turns to dust...
The rails on the bridge
Have now started to rust.

Poetry

The Colors of the Rainbow

Red is for the roses, dying by the door
Orange is for the sky at night, as it sets above the moor
Yellow is for the sun, as it rises through the sky,
Green is for the flowing grass, swaying as the wind rushes by
Blue is for the deep sea, ever mysterious and cold
Indigo is for the color of a velvet dress so old
And violet is for the bruise, that lies on my heart.

Poetry

For a Friend

I was there to catch you,
And I shouldn't have been
Had to look right through
What I clearly should have seen
People all around me tried to warn me
They told me I was just your backup plan
But I carelessly ignored their warnings,
And continued to chase you as you ran
But my legs began to tire,
And the chase became a bore,
And I wasn't what you wanted,
Because you always wanted more,
My legs gave out, my knees grew weak,
And I collapsed into the dust,
but then another picked me up,
Saved me before I could rust,
Saw what you could never have,
The better part in me,
Asked me what you never would have,
And accepted me completely.

Poetry

Flower

You found a tiny flower,
So small and so plain,
You took it home and planted it,
Feeding it with rain
You saw your flower growing,
Yet didn't want to touch it,
Thinking that if you gave it time,
The flower could be more beautiful yet.
While you waited, you bought roses,
And daisies by the dozen,
But still you kept the little flower,
To show you point was proven
But the tiny little flower
Wasn't so little anymore
The flower had grown beautiful,
And now longed to live on different shores,
Another person found the flower,
Didn't care that it was small,
Picked it from its plot of land,
Removed it from its earthen wall
The flower then was happy
No more was it confined
The flower had a person now,
And like a star it shined.

Wasting Time

Wasting time: One of everyone's favorite things to do. I don't care who you are OR how old you are, everyone does. Somehow, we all manage to find things to do BESIDES what we are supposed to be doing- social media, Buzzfeed quizzes, reading articles about UFO's, playing crappy computer games, watching videos... because clearly, finding out what gemstone matches your soul is FAR more important than oh, your homework or your job.

Now I'm not pointing fingers here- I'm guilty of procrastinating when I'm supposed to be working too. Those stupid spider solitaire games... tsk tsk. I'd probably be done 20 minutes earlier if that stupid game wasn't on my computer! But, it is, and it's good to take a break every now and again. Otherwise, you get headaches, and that keeps you from working even longer.

To end this little post, here is a picture:

Poetry

Happy

The clock keeps going,
Does not stop
The years fly by too fast
If you're not careful,
Before you know it,
Your time on Earth has passed,
So smile!
Be happy!
Laugh and sing!
Be loving yourself,
By cheerful to all,
And happiness to others you'll bring.

Some of the weirdest looking rock singers and bands

Through the years, freaky looking bands have come and gone... David Bowie started the trend in the early 1970's with Ziggy Stardust, and was soon followed by bands Kiss and Twisted Sister in the late 1970's and early 80's, respectively. No matter how much makeup you pile on... time does take it's toll. Below, I have before and after pictures of David Bowie, Dee Snider and Paul Stanley.

If these musicians have changed so drastically... I wonder what some of today's over-the-top performers will look like in a few decades???

Poetry

Fade

How did this happen
How did the red rose fade to black
How did the hammer of corruption fall
I don't know, but there's no going back
How did the sky, where the stars used to shine
Where the moon used to smile and give light,
Be blocked out by clouds,
And drowned out by the night
But the rose can still be saved,
The stars will shine someday
The moon will illuminate the night
And the sadness will fade away.

Polyvore

A polyvore collage I made
Today, I found a new site that I like. It's called Polyvore- it's a collage maker, but it's for piecing together different styles and outfits. The site lets you take images of clothing, jewelry, piercings, hairstyles etc. off of the internet and piece together a collage to express your style. I love it and it is a great way to spend time if you get bored. All you need to set up an account is an email adress, or you can use it without an account. It's easier to use it with an account, because then you can publish and save the collages you make.

It's completely free and will actually link you to wherever the pcitures you choose come from. If the item you are using can be bought, it links you to the site and also gives you the price of the item and where it can be bought. If you want to try it out, here is the link:

Music

I have quite an ecclectic mix of music that I listen to. I find that I go through different levels and genres of music throughout the year- some months, I really enjoy pop music. Other times I like techno/dubstep. Sometimes I like nightcore. These past few months, I've been going through my heavy metal/rock phase- mainly because of the iHeart radio app that my Dad downloaded. Since getting it, he's been listening to more punk and heavy music- that's more recent. He enjoys bands like the Offspring, Rage Against the Machine and Rob Zombie while I am more partial to Otep, In This Moment, The Pretty Reckless and Breaking Benjamin.

We've also decided on some bands that we DON'T like... Disturbed, My Chemical Romance and the Dropkick Murphys... ESPECIALLY the Dropkick Murphys. Holy crap. One song of their's is constantly playing on almost every station me and Dad change to, and it's so horribly sung that I literally got a headache from it the other day. It drawls on and on in a horrible accent and has lyrics that are non-relateable and quite frankly, stupid. Ugh.

What music do you like?

Poetry

Snow

Walk through the snow
Skid on the ice
Sled down the hills,
Catch all the mice,
Bundle up warm,
So no frostbite gets in,
The clouds are all coming,
It's winter again,
So let the snow fall,
And let the wind blow,
Let the ice glisten,
So that everyone will know.

Talking

Last night, Dad and I went to Walmart to get some stickers for my sister (she's homeschooled and the stickers encourage her to do better) and while we were there, everyone seemed to want to stop to talk us! Usually, when we go out in public, no one talks to us. But last night was different... first, a lady stopped my Dad and tried talking to him... unfortunately, her disruptive child was wreaking havoc in another part of the store and she had to run after him.

Next, an old man in a wheelchair stopped to talk with us while we were looking at DVD's. He seemed talkative, but also lonely... while Dad did most of the talking, I did appreciate listening to the man recount his life over the past 30 years as he seemed full of interesting stories. We would have talked with him longer, but it was already 8:30 and dinner was already made at home. I felt... bad for him, in a way. He seemed very lonely, like he didn't get to talk to people much.  I'm glad we stopped and talked with him for 20 minutes before moving on.

Finally, the cashier who checked us out was in a chatty mood and rambled on to us about her boyfriend and how she had to wake him up at 3:30 for work because he apparently refused to wake up to an alarm clock... she mumbled about what his work was and said something about her mom too, but all I could think was "How and why are you putting up with him!? Let him wake himself up, geez..." but I didn't say anything. Then, home we went... but I'm glad people talked to us.

Poetry

Seizure

Twist and turn
On the stone cold floor
Watching you suffer
Pains me to the core
When it can't be helped
And there's nothing to be done
When I cannot help you
The tears never cease to run
You'd think after 4 years
I'd have learned that this occurs,
But with self-made water in my eyes,
I can see only streaks and blurs,
When your muscles lock right up
And your limbs contort and curve
When I have to comfort myself,
And gather up my nerve,
When I'm scared it's over,
When I'm scared that you might leave,
Giving me just one more thing,
To cry about and grieve.

Poetry

The ship has sailed,
The tears have dried,
I've slowly moved on,
God knows, at least I've tried
I've blocked you out,
I've set you down,
I've put you in the past,
But you persist,
I can't resist,
You creep up on me at last.
The ship is sinking now,
The tears slowly return
The all-too-familiar feeling
Of the inner, deeper burn
I'll slowly soldier on
Pretend that I don't care
While it won't show,
deep down I know,
I'm caught forever in your glare.
