Grappling

Grappling it is many things in the eyes of different people. To a fashionable snoot, it looks like a filthy street fighter's sport. To a martial artist, like myself, it is a dangerous yet exciting part of karate. Sure, you may get a few black eyes and bloody noses, but after a while, you learn to accept those things. Grappling has some very hard moves in it, like shrimping. Shrimping may sound like a fancy food, but all it is is floor burn on a silver platter, not a tasty treat.

In grappling, you don't necessarily have to be on the ground the whole time. If you're lucky, you can stay on your knees and still grapple. There are many potentials for arm, leg, and even finger locks, and even some broken bones. Don't be alarmed, broken bones are VERY rare. I have only gotten punched in the mouth once, and I was up against a bigger person, so it really didn't count. Not even a chipped tooth. Though you may think grappling is rough and tough, down and dirty work, it is not very hard and is pretty simple besides the occasional arm lock and floor burn. If you are interested in karate, you've come to the right place. If there are any karate questions, I will gladly answer them. I learn a form of kenpo at USA Karate.

Til' next time,
Maddie
