Wizard101

I haven't been on Wizard101 in a LOOOOOONG time... so this weekend, I will try to go on and see whats been happening since I got off. I believe there are new magic schools.. it'll be hard picking up where I left off. I was in Celestia when I stopped playing, and I believe I was a level 56. I will try to get Dad to get on too... heck, maybe I can convince him to do a video with me! Probably not though, so don't expect it. I don't know the slightest thing about how to record games.

Do I have any readers who play Wizard101? If so, leave your thoughts on the game in the comments... if not, check it out! It is a free-to-play family game, a multiplayer, and very fun. It DOES require download, but it has not given me any problems, and it has been installed to my computer for over 2 years now. Basic gameplay is free, but at a certain point you are given the option to pay for the rest of the game.

Well, I still have one more blog to do so I will end the post here.

New Online Course!

I started a new course today! It is called Energy 101, and it's being taught by Sam Shelton from the Georgia Institute of Technology. Both Dad and I are signed up and taking the class. I haven't done the first lecture yet, but Dad has and says it is good. It sounds like it will be an interesting class- if you'd like to check it out and give it a try, click here.

Other than that, things are going better today. I got up early and intend to get my work done early again, despite being a bit delayed by an Avast update when I woke up. But now I am working. My workload changed this year- I am now doing 2 math, 3 Absolute Animals, 1 Think a Thought, and 1 Mineral per day. Well, and now I guess I will be doing 3 lectures per day too. This course seems very easy- I believe every week there are seven 10-minute lectures. There are then seven 5-question quizzes (one for each lecture) and some easy reading.

I hope that my readers will at a minimum click the link and read about the course- and if you aren't interested, take a look at some of the other coursera classes and see if there IS something you are interested in. All of the courses are free to take and really are not that time consuming.

Ways to Conquer a Cold- WITHOUT Medicine!!!

I don't know about my readers, but I do NOT like medicine. It is usually horrible tasting, gloppy, and doesn't work well. Whenever I get sick, I like to try my own methods to cure the cold before going to the cabinet for medicine. So far, my tricks have worked- I was sick yesterday, and today I feel a hundred times better! Here are the steps you need to take to get rid of the common cold:

  1. Clean your ears with hydrogen peroxide. Take a tissue, wet the end of it with hydrogen peroxide, and then squeeze a drop into your ear. Keep your head tilted to the side. You should hear a fizzling sound and feel the peroxide tingling in your ear. Don't worry, it just means it is doing it's job. When the noise stops, tilt your head to get the remainder of the peroxide out and then repeat with the other ear.
  2. For sore throats, I can recommend nothing better than honey. Take about 1 1/2 teaspoons of it and it will make you able to swallow without hurting again! It coats your throat, just like medicine, but it has a nicer flavor AND is natural.
  3. Sleep. Sleep, sleep, sleep. I did the above and then slept in, and today- no more cold. One last thing- these remedies will not work if you snirch (as in don't blow your nose.) I managed to avoid getting mucus in my throat by blowing my nose no matter what.
  4. Use a humidifier. I recommend a cool mist humidifier and leaving it on in your room with the door closed for about 4 hours. Then, go to sleep and your nose should be clear.
  5. Use Vicks Vaporub. I like using the cream and rubbing it around my nose and the underside of my throat. It opens up my sinuses, and helps me clear my nose.
Well, that's how I beat back my cold! And I didn't use a drop of yucky medicine.... bleh! However, if you have a fever, you SHOULD take medicine, otherwise it could be dangerous. I advise to only use the above method if your cold has just begun and you want to stop it in it's tracks.

Hope this was helpful,
Maddie
