Happy Labor Day!

Happy Labor Day! There is one thing I do not get about this holiday, and that is it's name. Why is it called Labor Day if you get the day off? It should be called something more realistic, like Un-Labor Day or something. But I decided to do a little research on today and find out why it is called what it is... Give me a moment, I am Googling.

Wow... Labor Day started a looooooooooooooong time ago. It started when children employed at a silk mill in 1835 stood up and went on a strike for the day. From there on in, every Labor Day people went on a strike.

Finally, in 1970 when the mail worker went on strike and no mail was delivered, President Nixon declared a state of national emergency. Since then, Labor Day has usually been the last weekend of summer for everyone to remind us of the labors we must go back to- adults to work, and children to school (except for me, I always do school!).

Well, you learn something new every day, huh? I never would have thought that that was the reason. I hope everyone reading this learned a little something... I know I did.

The Christmas Countdown

THE CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN IS ON! We are less than a week until Christmas, and each day, I am going to interview a different member of my family about what they feel that Christmas is. Today, I will interview my little sister Ashleigh.

Me: Hello Ashleigh, thanks for taking the time to come here! I am going to interview you about Christmas!
Ashleigh: OH. What is that?
Me: Well, Christmas is a time where you get very happy because baby Jesus is born and Santa Claus comes.
Ashleigh: And Santa Claus comes? Right?
Me: Right. What is your favorite part of Christmas?
Ashleigh: I don't know, toys, and cookies!
Me: Do you have a certain type of cookie you like?
Ashleigh: Chocolate Chip!
Me: Do you like snow for Christmas?
Ashleigh: Yes!
Me: Why?
Ashleigh: Because I say so.
Me: Well then. Do you know how many days there are until Christmas?
Ashleigh: 31, 32...
Me: Nope! There are 6 days until Christmas! Do you know who comes on Christmas?
Ashleigh: Yeah, Santa!
Me: Yes he does good job! Can you tell everyone how old you are?
Ashleigh: 2!
Me: Yup! and this was my interview with my little sister! Check back tomorrow for another interview featuring Mom!!!

Poem on Friendship

Friends
Friends are there all through the day,
To get you through your work and play,
Through thick and thin they stand by your side,
Mourn with you when someone you love has died,
And even through occasional fights,
Things always somehow turn out right,
Your friend will never lie to you,
Even when they're mad,
They'll calmly talk it out with you,
and tell you why they're sad.
You can always amend your ways,
And then be friends for all your days.

Friend Diamante

Friend
Caring, Good-hearted
Sweet, Friendly, Helpful
Mean, Rude,
Enemy

Well, those were my two poems about friendship. I am more than happy to write a poem about almost anything. If you want a topic turned into a poem, PLEASE LEAVE A COMMENT!!!! No inappropriate topics please. I am only 11. But other than that, please request away! I chose this topic because besides family, friends really are the most important thing in your life. Friends should always be there for you, so make sure you are always there for them.
